We did have one difficult day, but at least I now know the reason! On Wednesday, Kara was extremely fussy–she would just follow me around, throw herself on the floor, and cry. I couldn’t figure out what was going on! I was worried that maybe the honeymoon period was over, but the problem soon became apparent: the foot that had surgery in China had gotten infected. Just from the time I had dressed her in the morning until mid-afternoon, it had swollen up, turned redish-purple, and hot. In fact, she was running a fever of 102 degrees! So, I took her to the doctor, and he was quite concerned–he was worried that maybe the infection would spread into her bone, so he gave her a shot of antibiotic, and put her on 2 weeks of oral antibiotic. That has cleared up her foot pretty well, but now it looks like the scar from the sutures is opening up–her foot is just a mess! Anyway, we have an appointment tomorrow to have her foot rechecked. We’ll see what they say then.
We have an appointment at Denver Children’s Hospital on November 6 where they will begin treating her club foot. I will be so relieved when American doctors have examined her foot and given us their expectations as far as treatment is concerned.
Other than her foot, things are going fine. Kara is sleeping well, eating well, playing well, etc. We are happy that she is home and that things are getting back to normal!
