Learning the Language……
Kara has now been home for a month, and she has adjusted so well! The kids all love her so much, and she just fits our family perfectly! We rejoice that God added her to the O’Brien family!
Kara’s language is really starting to come along. We had our first post-placement visit with our social worker, and he was amazed at how much English she is picking up! She was so cute the other night–when I was changing the bandaids on her foot (which is STILL open from the infection), I told her that I was going to put the bandaid on her nose. At first, she just smiled and nodded, but then it dawned on her what I had said, and she smiled, pointed to her nose, and said, “Nose????? NO!!!!” Now that has turned into a big game.
Here is a list of some of the words that she says: ice cream, up please, trash, bed, bath, butterfly, milk, bites, towel, bunny rabbit, all of our names, Grandma, mouth, eyes, nose, tummy, blocks, tv, bike, “find Daddy,” Bible, book, I love you….I know that is not exhaustive, so she is doing very well!
Monday is when we take Kara for her first visit to the pediatric orthopedic surgeon to begin addressing her club foot. Please pray with us that all will go well. I will post more after that appointment.

Lois,
Great to see your updates…I still check on yours from time to time and love it. Kara is just so darling. I’m sure you all just go nuts over her. She sounds like she also has a wonderful personality too. I hope all is going well with her foot. I still think of you guys often. No news on our travel yet, as we wait…and wait.
