Yesterday was Luke’s 6th birthday. It is so hard for me to believe that he is already 6! His birthday always brings back memories and a thankfulness to God that Luke is in our family.
Luke was born three months prematurely. Yes, he was not due until July! He weighed just over 3 pounds, and dropped to 2 1/2 pounds before he started growing again. He was a feisty little guy, though! In fact, after the nursing staff had gotten him ready to fly to the hospital in Denver, they came in and told me that they thought he was going to be all right. I asked them if they really thought so, and they said that it had taken 3 ADULTS to hold that little tiny baby still enough to start an IV line! So, yes, they thought he would be fine.
His road was not always smooth. He had two brain bleeds, had to spend time on a ventilator, and had feeding issues that lasted for quite awhile. He spent 8 weeks in neonatal ICU before he was able to come home. But, praise God! He quickly caught up and has been a very normal, happy boy! (But he is still quite feisty!)
We love Luke so much. He is a lot of fun and enjoys his brothers and sisters. He does well in school and has a very sweet love for Jesus. In fact, his spiritual depth and understanding way exceeds his age.
Happy birthday, Luke! We love you and are so thankful that you are part of our family!

Happy Birthday to Luke! And, while it’s not always easy for parents when a kid is feisty, it’s really a good “survival skill” for the kid! I have often needed to remind myself about that, since one of my threesome was a feisty kid. She’s the one who has needed that trait to help her as an adult. Of course, she might not have needed it so much if she wasn’t so feisty!
