Last night, John came home from his Boy Scout meeting with a couple of great pieces of information that I wanted to pass on here for those who also participate in Scouts.
First of all, Boys Life Magazine has started a new television show on the Outdoor Channel about Boy Scout adventure stories. It is called “Scouting for Adventure,” and it airs on Wednesdays at 7:30am and 5:30 pm. (All of the times listed are for the Central Time Zone.) It airs again on Saturdays at 1:00 pm. There is information about this program as well as videos from it at http://outdoorchannel.com/Shows/ScoutingForAdventure.aspx . John said that his troop watched an episode of this program last night and that he enjoyed it very much.
Secondly, John’s scoutmaster gave him a DVD that had video training for all of the advancement requirements for the Tenderfoot, 2nd Class, and 1st Class ranks. He told John that they were also on the internet, so I did some searching and found them! The link for those videos is http://www.scouting.org/applications/rankvideo.aspx . I watched a few of the videos, and I think they will be a nice supplement for my boys as they continue to advance in Boy Scouts.
On a side note, John gave a presentation about Lightning Safety at last night’s meeting. This was the final requirement he had to complete for his weather merit badge. He and Dan worked together to put together a pretty nice Power Point slideshow. I know he was pretty nervous, but Dan reported that his speech went very well. John was so happy when he got home–I think he felt that way because he had done something new and difficult and had been successful. That’s what Boy Scouting is all about, and it is just great!

Hey, congratulations on your guy being able to get up and teach his fellows. Thanks for the information on the videos.
[...] The Prarie Family Chronicles has posted that the Boy Scouts have an online video that discusses the rank advancement requirements. I didn’t know that. The videos are kind of a pain to watch, though, since they’re large. Otherwise, I really like them. Possibly Related Posts: Religious But Not Churchy [...]
