This is the last assignment for The Blogger Friend School that I need to catch up on before the new assignment is posted on Wednesday! I must say that this one has been the one that I have enjoyed the most so far! This assignment is to use my Blog’s name to create signs. The link that makes these neat signs is at http://www.imagechef.com . At the end of the assignment, I will share another verse that has been special to me this week.

I have had so much fun with this sign-making, that John has called it “The Prairie Family Chronicles Fad!” I am going to post a Smilebox slideshow of some of the neat signs that we made.

My verse for today is I Peter 2:9 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.”

Assignment #4 for Training Hearts Blogger Friend School is called “Panning for Gold.” It is a place to list links in various categories that I enjoy.

In the ABC assignment, I listed myself as Quirky. I am finding out every day just how true that is! 🙂 As I was looking at this assignment, I discovered that I must be a strange websurfer, because I don’t really use most of the categories that are listed! So, again I am adjusting this assignment to fit my quirky self!

My most-used, and most-loved sites are in The Prairie Family Chronicles Portaportal. I have a permanent link to it in the portion of my sidebar entitled “Prairie Family Links.” The address is http://guest.portaportal.com/colbylobrien . This Portaportal is a great way to keep my list of favorites current and is easy to share. My kids enjoy it because I put appropriate links on it for them to use, and I add new ones as I find them.

So, I guess that’s my “quirky” way of completing this assignment. I am just unique enough that I am not easily categorized! 🙂

Scripture for Today: John 15:16

Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, He may give it you.

Well, I am going to substitute an assignment for Blogger Friend School assignment #2.  That assignment was to turn our favorite blogging spot from assignment #1 into our “dream spot.”  Since I really don’t care where I blog–just give me a computer, and I am fine–I decided to look through the assignment archives from last year and find a substitute.

I chose last year’s assignment #19, “On the Drawing Board.”  It is supposed to be a post of one of my child’s art projects.

My kids have varying interest in artistic pursuits.  Cosette and Kara both love to draw and color pictures, and sometimes Luke likes to draw pictures to tell a story.  John and Brock, though, really don’t get into art very much, which is fine!  They are just too busy with other things.  John went through a phase earlier this year when he learned to make several complicated string figures, so I asked him to make one of those for this post.  He asked if string figures are “art,” and I told him that art is definitely more than drawing pictures!  So, I am going to post a video clip of John making one of his string figures, and a Smilebox slideshow of some of the other projects the kids have made.

Just yesterday I came across a neat blog called Training Hearts at http://www.traininghearts.com/blog/ and I put the link to it in my sidebar under Favorite Blogs.  The writer of this blog has a neat program she calls Blogger Friend School, which is a series of weekly assignments for blogging homeschooling moms to learn blogging skills, build friendships, strengthen faith, and share special memories.  I decided to sign up, even though I have never done anything like this before!

The bad news is that I am already behind!  🙂  They are currently on Week 5, and I am only on Week 1!  The good news is that I can catch up!  So, I will be doing more than one of these Blogger Friend School assignments per week until I catch up, and then I will try to stay on schedule.  I think the new assignments are posted on Wednesdays.

The first assignment was to answer a series of questions, so here it goes:

1.  Give a brief introduction paragraph stating how you got started blogging and your personal goals for journaling.

I started blogging about a year and a half ago at my original site, http://www.youbelong.net/colbylobrien .  I wanted to share my journey to adopt my daughter from China.  Since then, I have found blogging to be a neat way to get to know other people as well as a useful tool to minister to others.  I use my journaling to promote adoption (especially of special needs kids), to share my faith, to encourage others, to tell about my kids and their funny adventures, and, most of all, to have fun!

2. Where do I love to blog?

It doesn’t matter to me!  🙂  Give me a computer and a few free minutes, and away I go!

3.   What time do I usually blog?  Anytime I have a few free minutes or have something on my mind.

What is my favorite drink?  Diet Pepsi.  I am one of those people who has drunk diet soft drinks for so long that regular pop tastes strange!

What is my favorite book?  The Bible stands alone.  All truth and all encouragement is found in it.  It is my foundation.

What is my favorite dessert?  Ice cream

Share a scripture that has been an inspiration to my spiritual growth:  Psalm 139 has always been special to me.  A great Christian doctor who is now a missionary encouraged me to learn it by memory at one of my lowest moments.  It continues to be a source of strength, challenge and encouragement.  Here is a video of  this wonderful Psalm:

I am glad I found Blogger Friend School.  I am looking forward to completing the assignments and getting to know some special people along the way!
